Gary Halbert often asked his class…

There’s a story about the legendary Gary Halbert, who sometimes gave classes on either copywriting and/or selling by mail.

In one of these classes, Gary asked one of his favorite questions.

The question he loved to ask his students was:
“If you and I both owned a hamburger stand and we were in a contest to see who could sell the most hamburgers, what advantages would you most like to have on your side to help you win?”

There was a mix of answers.

Some would reply that they would like to have superior meat from which to make their burgers.

Others said that they’d want sesame seed buns.

A few mentioned locations.

Then there were the usual replies about offering the lowest prices.

After his students finished telling him what advantages they’d like most to have.

Gary would turn around to them and say something like…
“O.K., I’ll give you every single advantage you have asked for. I, myself, only want one advantage and, if you will give it to me, I will (when it comes to selling burgers) whip the pants off all of you!”

“What advantage do you want?”

They ask.

“The only advantage I want,” he’d reply…

“Is…
A Starving Crowd!”

When it comes to marketing on and offline…

…the most profitable habit you can cultivate is the habit of constantly being on the lookout for groups of people (markets)…

… who have demonstrated that they’re starving or at least hungry for a product or service you want to offer.

And in Dan Kennedy’s book, Magnetic Marketing talks about the most important thing you can do is know your WHO.

Your job is to find a “starving crowd” who can’t live without what it is you have to offer.

Dan goes on to say, once you nail this – the person who you definitely want to do business with again and again.

Then you’ll be able to make your marketing “magnetic”. Because you’ll be using words and phrases that’ll attract your target audience.

And once you know your WHO. You can create the right message to convert your audience into leads and customers.

That you can use for all your marketing, such as free content to help build your email list…
