I hope you’re having a good Sunday…
Today I’ve been flipping back through a book by Todd Herman:
The Alter Ego Effect.
If you’ve never heard of Todd Herman…
He’s a specialist in getting the best out of people and when sports people or businessmen need specific results…
They call Todd.
He’s worked with some of the biggest names in sports and business.
At the start of the book is an interesting section on Bo Jackson.
Bo is the only athlete in the big four of major North American sports to be an all-star in two of them…
Major League Baseball and the National Football League and who transcended sports in the 80s.
As a kid, Bo had challenges containing his emotions and would get into a lot of trouble because of his anger.
Caught up in the competition and retaliating against the smallest perceived slights, resulting in unnecessary penalties.
Now here is where it gets interesting…
One day whilst watching a Friday the 13th movie, Bo became fascinated by the unemotional, cold, and relentless nature of Jason.
During the movie Bo resolved to stop being Bo Jackson and start being Jason on the football field, leaving the uncontrollable rage on the sidelines.
Bo says the Jason only lived on the football field and when he walked out of the locker room and reached the football field, Jason would enter his body and take over.
Transforming Bo from the hotheaded, penalty prone, easy-to-provoke person into a relentless, cold, and disciplined destroyer on the football field.
By imagining himself as Jason…
this helped him focus every ounce of his talent and skill, allowing him to show up on the field, without any emotional issues interfering with his performance.
Sounds a bit out there, eh?
To fully grasp the idea, you have to read the book.
(Essentially, you’re creating identities to achieve goals in life.)
And as one subscriber said to me…
“I feel like I’m always getting in the way of my own success.”
But what if you could imagine being successful whilst doing what you needed to do?
And not get In the way of your success!
As Einstein said:
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution.”
If you haven’t read the book, I recommend you take a look, it’s a great read…
Zaf.
P.S. FINAL EMAIL…

Saw him featured on leaderboards and winning prizes pretty much every time he was promoted…
